Our History

Camp Knock Knock was founded in 1998 in loving memory of Alisha Reis, a pediatric hospice patient who loved to tell knock knock jokes. At camp, we honor Alisha’s memory through the tradition of telling knock knock jokes during each meal.

Originally launched as a signature project of the Junior League of Champlain Valley, in partnership with VNA Hospice of Chittenden County, Camp Knock Knock continues to support grieving families in Vermont each year.

Camp Knock Knock is organized by a dedicated planning committee and is solely funded through community grants, donations, and community partnerships.

Our Mission

Camp Knock Knock is committed to serving our community by providing a safe environment where family members can continue their natural grieving process after the death of a loved one. This weekend camp will nurture individuals and families through partnerships, peer support, group activities, lighthearted fun, caring, and opportunities for expression.

Camp Knock Knock is made possible by the dedication of a team of trained volunteers. Many of our volunteers have personally experienced the death of a loved one, allowing them to connect with families in a meaningful and understanding way. Their commitment and care create the supportive, healing environment that makes Camp Knock Knock so special. Those interested in volunteering can contact us here: campknockknock.org/contact
